  • Have you ever tried honey from a. dorsata? I am trying to find some in California.

    Thanks,
    David

  • Hi David:

I have been in contact with a Himalayan honey supplier, but still have yet to receive any. And I can’t be sure it will be from apis dorsata, but it should be. You can buy it on amazon.

Please kindly advice where I can buy honeycomb in Yangon,
Burma. I searched for a farm contact but does not seemed
    to reach anyone.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Jenny:

Hopefully someone visiting Honey Traveler may be able to offer some advice. I don’t have any honey contacts in Burma yet.

I would like to test my honey to see if there is urine traces from a small insect eating mouse. Where can I do this, and how much would it cost? I live in Germany

  • Hi Brigitte:

What led you to this particular line of inquiry?

  • Hi

I produce honey in Greece, we follow all traditional methods and are Nomadic, collecting honey from all the hard to reach areas in Greece and the Islands.

    We package all honey ourselves.

Question I want to take honey to the UK and sell it over the internet and to small farm shops etc, providing the labelling is correct do I need a licence. Seeing as we are the beekeepers, it such a grey area ?

    Hi Scott
I’m a whole-foods home delivery service in South Africa. I stock local raw honey. Do you know if all honey that is to be exported/ imported is pasteurised? I was told that pasteurisation is/ was a requirement for all food products before import/ export is authorised… but, if so, raw honey wouldn’t ever be available from a foreign supplier…
    Thanks for your time

  • Hi Bjarne:

Honey for import/export does not need to be pasteurized although there are region specific guidelines you must follow. EU honey import requirements can be quite strict.

  • Look at the Honey Regulations 2015 UK, its the same for Europe. You need a lab report the details are in the regulations.

Hey, I just found this website and I think its great. I just noticed that no new posts have been made. Do you still keep up with this project?

  • Hi Ian:

Still supported and I continue to be fascinated by honey. Did you have any questions?

  • Hi Scott have yoy got any experience with stingless bee honey? I am about to visit a producer in the Amazon and would like to know if you interested in trying it. Is there any mutual partnership we can do to help each other on promoting our work? I think we could come up with somenthing as I will concentrate on stingless bees from Brazil and there are around 300 varieties. Regards. Rolf.

  • Hi Rolf:

I have tried unsuccessfully to obtain stingless bee honey and would be delighted to try it and report here. I would be particularly interested to know about the sustainability of the process of obtaining honey from stingless bee hives and learning more about them. Feel free to contact me at scott (at) honeytraveler.com.

Since all bee keepers use antibiotics on their hives and the Rx contaminates the honey, do you know if heating/boiling honey can denature or otherwise remove the antibiotic?

  • I’m researching which is the best raw honey around my country, Spain. I’m debating between oak honey, holm oak honey, and chestnut honey which are the 3 honeydew sources. Apparently the oak honey varieties cristallize too easily, so chestnut is the way to go? Does it contain good enzymes and is good for general health? Thanks.

Hi. Leaving the honey on the frame, with comb, would freezing the honey destroy the nutrients, with the same impact as heating it above 95F?

I’m using the boards as feeding supplement for bees in February, but am interested in storing it frozen, then later spinning it after thawing.

  • Hey Scott,
I am an Engineer based in Canada but with a palate for various types of honey. Being a native of Nigeria, I started collecting and now distributing raw honey from Nigeria to Canada and USA.

I found your website by accident really but found it very interesting. Is there a way to sign up to your blogs or newsletters?

    Many thanks!

  • Hi Charles:

I am glad you found it interesting and informative! You can signup by clicking the “posts” or “comments” buttons in the top right hand side of the web site page.

  • HI Raymond:

I believe that sealing and freezing/cooling is the best way to store honey for long periods. I don’t know what the optimum temperature is but for the short period of time you are storing, I would suggest between 0C to -5C would be sufficient, as honey that is well sealed does not degrade quickly. And sealed within the wax cell should be perfect.

    Hello Person-in-charge,

about 6 months ago we bought a few bottles of Linden Honey. The taste and colour very different from that we bought about 2 years ago. It was bitter with dark brown colour. May I know if this is natural in terms of taste and colour? It tasted bitter the very first time we opened it.

    Regards
    Katherine

  • Hi Katherine:

That is definitely not the natural color or flavor. It is strong tasting, but not bitter, and light colored not dark.
